Two Years On — Still On My Counter

There are coffee machines you buy, use for a few months, and quietly retire to a cupboard. And then there are the ones that just become part of your morning. The Tassimo My Way 2 is firmly in the second category for me — I bought it myself over two years ago and it still gets used most days. That's not a small thing in a house where coffee machines compete for counter space.

Here's everything I've learned from two years of daily use — including the thing about the hot chocolate pods that nobody warns you about.

First Impressions — Out of the Box

I bought the Tassimo My Way 2 after visiting my aunt and being instantly intrigued by her pod machine and its endless drink options. Setting it up wasn't quite as instant as I'd hoped — there was a bit of fiddling involved getting familiar with the settings — but within a reasonable amount of time I had my first drink in hand and haven't looked back since.

What struck me immediately was the design. It's a handsome machine — clean lines, a compact footprint, and that touchscreen interface feels premium without being intimidating. It looked intentional on my counter rather than like a piece of kit that just happened to land there.

⚠️

Placement tip from 2 years of experience: Do not position this machine under a low cupboard. The water tank fills from the top and if you've got a cupboard sitting above your counter, refilling becomes an awkward, spillage-prone faff every single time. Give it open space above and your life will be considerably easier.

The Customisation — Tassimo's Biggest Selling Point

This is what sets the My Way 2 apart from every other Tassimo machine and frankly from most pod machines full stop. You can adjust the strength, temperature, and cup size of every drink — and save up to four favourite settings as memory presets so your perfect morning latte is literally one touch away.

I won't pretend it's immediately intuitive. It took a bit of getting used to — working out which settings affected which drinks and finding my sweet spots for each one. But once you've spent a week with it the controls become second nature, and the payoff is a machine that genuinely makes your drink your way every single time.

For a household where everyone has different preferences — different strengths, different cup sizes, different temperatures — the memory presets alone are worth the price of admission. The cheaper Tassimo machines don't give you this level of control. The My Way 2 is called "The Personal One" for a very good reason.

The Drink Range — Over 70 Options

The Tassimo T-Disc range is genuinely impressive. Over 70 drink options spanning Costa lattes and cappuccinos, Kenco americanos, Cadbury hot chocolates, Milka hot chocolate, teas, chai, and more. Something for every member of the household regardless of whether they drink coffee at all — which is rare in a pod machine at this price point.

I make lattes, americanos, and hot chocolates most days. The coffee quality is very good — rich, smooth, consistently well-extracted. Not quite at the level of a proper espresso machine but significantly better than instant and genuinely enjoyable as a daily cup.

The Brita filter built into the water tank is a thoughtful addition that genuinely makes a difference to taste. Maintenance is also refreshingly easy — descaling is straightforward, cleaning between drinks is automatic, and the filter replacement process is simple.

The Hot Chocolate Discovery — Read This Before You Buy

Right. This is the thing I wish someone had told me.

When I first started making hot chocolates on the My Way 2 I kept finding them disappointingly weak. Not bad — just thin. Like the chocolate flavour wasn't quite there. I tried adjusting the strength setting, tried different cup sizes, tried different brands of disc. Still weak.

Then one day I cut open a used T-Disc out of curiosity and discovered that roughly a quarter of the contents were still sitting in the pod. Undissolved. Unextracted. Just — in there. Going straight in the bin.

💡

The fix: Cut open every hot chocolate pod after use and scoop the remaining contents into your cup. It takes about ten seconds and the difference in flavour is remarkable — a proper rich chocolatey drink versus the watered-down version you've been settling for. I've found this consistently with both Cadbury and Milka pods. If your hot chocolates taste weak, your pod is probably still half full.

The Good & The Not So Good

What I Love

  • ☕ Beautiful well-designed machine
  • ☕ Brita filter built in as standard
  • ☕ Memory presets are genuinely life-changing
  • ☕ Very easy maintenance
Worth Knowing

  • ☕ T-Discs less widely available in stores than Nespresso pods
  • ☕ Closed system — Tassimo pods only
  • ☕ Needs open space above for easy water tank filling

Who Is This Machine For?

Honestly — almost anyone. It suits families where everyone wants something different, beginners who want simplicity without sacrificing control, coffee lovers who like things exactly their way, and anyone who wants a machine that goes well beyond just coffee. The combination of customisation, drink variety, and ease of use makes it one of the most versatile pod machines at its price point.

If you want maximum pod freedom across different brands and systems, take a look at my CAPXSNOB Warriors1 review — that's the machine I bought specifically because I wanted to explore beyond Tassimo pods. But if you're happy within the Tassimo ecosystem — and with 70+ drink options, most people are — the My Way 2 is the best version of that machine you can buy.

Final Verdict

Tassimo My Way 2
☕☕☕☕

The Tassimo My Way 2 has been on my counter for over two years and earned its place every single day. The customisation is genuinely brilliant, the drink range is unmatched in the Tassimo lineup, and the Brita filter is one of those details that quietly makes every cup better without you having to think about it.

The hot chocolate pod quirk is real — but now you know the fix, it's a minor inconvenience rather than a dealbreaker. After two years I'd buy it again without hesitation.

Would I recommend it? Without hesitation.
